Holding the Space: logo design
The facilitators were looking for a logo that was simple, suggesting space, but mainly typographic and not too abstract. The chosen route is seen below, with the dotted circle holding space around the 'Space' text. The logo will often be seen in partnership with other marks, including Thirty Percy's, and reversed and single colour versions were created for application across a variety of comms.
A range of initial alternative logo concepts were presented to the client, some of which can be seen here.
LEARNINGS FROM THE FOREST: REPORT
The facilitators at Holding the Space worked tirelessly to understand why communications through the Forest of Dean Climate Action Partnership (FODCAP) had broken down in the aftermath of the Covid pandemic. Through partnership and funding from Thirty Percy, they were instructed to find out what was needed to re-energise and restart FODCAP, and this report was commissioned to present those findings. Their learnings required translating into effective, engaging material, culminating in the design of this document.
I developed a colour palette based on natural tones, and worked with some excellent imagery from local photographer, Robin Morgan, to create a design that is well-balanced, light on the eye, and evocative of the local environment. I also designed infographics to represent the FODCAP approach and ways of working, and the support from Thirty Percy. The result is something that provides gravitas to the excellent work that Holding the Space have been doing.
LEARNINGS FROM THE FOREST: PRESENTATION DECK
With the report complete, Holding the Space asked me to adapt the content for an editable Powerpoint deck, so they could present their findings to local working groups. The design is simple, as the deck needs to be amendable for all members of the local working groups. A selection of slides from the deck are shown below.
"There are a lot of people who have been working tirelessly on climate issues in the Forest of Dean without remuneration or celebration, and I think there was something powerful in enabling their work to feel 'proper'. When it's done well it feels so effortless, and I know just how much talent and work it needs to give something its own style and identity, so thank you!"
